Cheap Baby Toys

Baby toys are about the easiest things to save money on, but they are also the easiest things to waste money on! There are an abundance of baby toys on the market, ranging from cheap and basic toys to flashing, lullaby playing, all singing all dancing technological baby toy equipment.
You know how some people say ‘the baby is more interested in the box the toy comes in’? It’s basically true. Our little one is more intrigued by a plain coloured plastic cup than most of the battery powered flashing and musical baby toys on the market. Professor Regan recently demonstrated this to be true on the BBC. Especially in the early stage of their development, babies can be adequately stimulated by relatively simple, cheap toys. No need for the sensory overload toys at this stage in their development.
It stands to reason - babies will be intrigued by the cheapest of baby toys because their eyes are seeing and hearing things for the very first time. The sound and texture of crinkly paper is amazing to a baby.
Cheap baby toys are widely available. Let relatives and friends know that you are in the market for hand-me-down baby toys and you should receive quite a few for starters. Charity shops are often given lots of good quality baby toys and books. Freecycle and Ebay are good internet sources of cheap baby toys. Try Freecycle before Ebay, because it’s free! Car Boot Sales are an excellent place to pick up bargain baby toys for pennies - browse your local paper for details and times.
As with cheap baby clothes, some parents don’t want to go down the second-hand route and would prefer to buy brand new baby toys. This isn’t a problem, as cheap new baby toys are also widely available. Check out your local supermarket - toys from here are often cheaper than on the high street. If you see a toy you like for your baby while on your travels, note down the make and model, then search the internet for it - you will often see the same item much cheaper on the internet.
If you’re planning to make your own baby toys or use things like a wooden spoon utensil (which can be hugely entertaining for a baby) keep safety and hygiene at the forefront of your mind. Make sure any baby toy is cleaned and disinfected. Ensure there are no loose or small parts that could present a choking hazard, and be sure to supervise your baby’s play sessions at all times.
